Pregnancy, Perinatal/ Postpartum, Matrescence, Parenthood
Becoming a parent, or deciding whether to do so or remain child free, can bring up a lot. That's true however it happens, whether through pregnancy, adoption, surrogacy or after a long road with fertility treatment. People come to me with things like:
Making choices about having children
Processing abortion
Dealing with baby loss
Navigating fertility challenges and IVF
Finding pregnancy difficult
Symptoms of postpartum depression or anxiety
Processing a traumatic or difficult birth
Changes in your relationship with your partner
Own or partners’ return to work
A shifting sense of identity
Becoming a mother changes so much at once: your body, your relationships, your work, and how you see yourself. It can be joyful and disorienting at the same time, and it's common to feel that you're supposed to be coping better than you are.
Becoming a father can be just as big a shift, and dads' feelings are often overlooked. You might be trying to support your partner while struggling yourself, or working out what how to reconcile your new role as father with who you were before.
In our sessions there's room for all of it, including the feelings that are harder to say out loud.
Families come in all shapes. Whether you're a solo parent, parenting with a partner of any gender, co-parenting, still on the road to parenthood, or in a family that doesn't fit a neat label, you're very welcome here.
My work in this area is supported by a specialist perinatal supervision group.
I also run groups and one-off events for mothers.
Sessions are £50, in person in Sheffield or online. I offer a free 15-minute call to see whether we're a good fit.
